“ As a child growing up in the Peninsula portion of the Bay Area, I'd go to Woodside Deli on Woodside Road for The Godfather, the Italian sandwich of your dreams. Even if you didn't go here, you likely ate a bomb Bay sandwich that you never forgot, sometimes with Dutch Crunch bread, which was actually invented in the Bay Area. Lots of places, to this day, outside of the Bay don't carry this type of bread for sandwiches, and it makes for a miserable sandwich experience, with your palate dying of boredom. No longer. The Baker's Mark is churning out Bay style chronic Sammie's that have all the flavor but none of those lines that you'd see at Little Lucca's. Order is through the touch screen and you modify it to your liking. Took my Godfather to another level with pepper jack, spicy mustard and spicy lettuce mix. ON DUTCH CRUNCH! Every bite made me feel like I was in South City or El Camino San Mateo, each bite compelling and thrilling. I am a changed man. I insist that modern Portland is SF in the 90's in terms of hella good food and vibe of the people. Will be in the regular lunch rotation for sure! ”
“ Brilliant sandwiches with Dutch crunch bread, something I had never tried before. Cool industrial vibe with big beam ceilings. The staff are brisk, efficient and friendly. Baker's Mark is super popular, so it's a good idea to order on their website for pickup at the counter, otherwise you might have to wait a bit (still worth it). Probably my favorite sandwich place in Portland! ”
“ Been here a few times. Solid sandwiches. Nice outdoor seating (covered). Counter service. ”
“ We tried to come here once before when passing through Portland but they were sold out by the time we got there. Glad we were in the know about pre-ordering this trip. Both sandwiches were so good. The bread was delicious - crusty but also soft. Quality ingredients and an excellent bread-to-filling ratio. Will definitely be back. ”
“ It's just a sandwich place, you think. But let me tell you, non-believer, it's one of the best sandwich places in the west. Dutch crunch, Boars Head meats, beet tuna salad, pepper spreads, Tillamook cheese. This place does everything right. It's a tad pricey but it's a spot where you feel ok paying for the quality. ”
“ Came on a Sunday around lunch time, there was bread. Thank goodness. We had a simple Turkey sandwich and a Roast Beef with AuJus. The AuJu was excellent and something to come back for. They were both delicious, worth the $40 for two with no bevy. The sandwich were decent size for the price. Order process was easy and the food came out timely. There are indoor and outdoor seating. ”
“ Trying again after many years. I am just not a fan of dutch crust bread and I think last time I tried it out. Just a personal preference. Nice to see they had a french bread option. My husband enjoyed his salad but thought the choice of protein on the salads was too limited. Tuna, salami, basic turkey or garbanzo beans. Asked after we ate and they said next time we can ask but they will charge more as the other meats cost more. I think they could still add the option and just show it costs more. I enjoyed the warm ham and provolone sandwich on french. Usually provolone is so bland but it was pretty good melted. Very popular and a big line after noon. Reasonable prices but Boars Head meats so not high end either. I did have the special Snickerdoodle and was very happy. Two typical types of Snickerdoodle cookies (one of my favorite cookies). Either dry and crumbly (not my thing) or moist but soft. Theirs was moist and soft with good cinnamon flavor so two thumbs up from me. ”
“ I haven't had a Dutch Crunch roll since I moved from the Bay Area 13 yrs ago so when I heard that there is exactly one place to get them in Portland, I took a day off work to try it out (among other things). Baker's Mark is an efficient little sandwich shop! Order at the kiosk or online ahead of time, and they'll get your sandwiches ready quickly. There was a steady stream of people coming in picking up an order. I tried the roast beef and pepper jack on Dutch Crunch roll and thought it was great! The bread was freshly baked and had that nicely crackled top that provides a crunchy texture when you bite into it. Since you can specify what you want on your sandwich, it'll come out the way you like it. They had hot and cold sandwiches and one salad. Pretty straightforward. Delicious bread and if you've never tried Dutch Crunch, you really need to. ”
“ I first tried Dutch crunch bread in SF Bay Area and immediately became obsessed. Dutch crunch is really common out there, but almost impossible to find here in PDX. So you can imagine how excited I was to find it here at Baker's Mark. I've heard about their Dutch crunch for years now but finally had a chance to try it out. When you step in, the smell of yeasty fresh baked bread is amazing!!! Came in on a Friday right at 11, and I was probably the second physical customer. But I saw them working hard cranking out online orders already. By the time I finished my sandwich the place was packed!!! From what I could see, their cold cuts are all boar's head. I got the godfather with all the works and on Dutch crunch bread of course. I personally give it a 3.5-4/5. It's a solid choice, don't get me wrong. The sandwich was packed, but I felt like it was a bit small for the price point at $14. The Dutch crunch was good, had a nice chew but the topping is not as sweet as I am used to. However, without any other options for Dutch crunch around, it scratches the itch until I can find myself back in the bay. Definitely worth a try if you have never had Dutch crunch before!!! Or if you are wanting a higher quality sandwich with freshly baked bread. ”
